This morning the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Cosenza executed a precautionary custody order under house arrest issued by the GIP of the Court of Cosenza, at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The provision concerns a suspect believed – at the current stage of the investigation – to be seriously suspected of false material committed by a private individual in a public document, procedural fraud and false expert opinion by induction, crimes which would have been committed with the aim of obtaining the undue provision of social security and welfare benefits.
At the same time, at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor, an emergency preventive seizure was carried out for a total amount of 1,554,763.94 euros, a sum corresponding – according to the accusatory hypothesis – to the social security benefits unduly received by various subjects who allegedly turned to the suspect.
The seizure measure will now be subjected to scrutiny by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations, who will have to express his opinion on the validation and possible adoption of the preventive seizure.
The investigations, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Cosenza and conducted by the Carabinieri of the Provincial Command, are still ongoing and the proceedings are in the preliminary phase.
Further details will be provided during the press conference scheduled for this morning, at 10.30am, at the provincial headquarters of the Carabinieri in Cosenza, in the presence of the Public Prosecutor and the soldiers of the Carabinieri who conducted the operations.
