The match against Sudtirol is also the match of exes. There are many old acquaintances on both fronts. Tomorrow afternoon’s match at the “Marulla” will be an amarcord moment with a varied flavor for various of the protagonists on the pitch.
Among these, Luigi Canotto will certainly be the one with the poisoned tooth. The Rossoneri winger arrived at Sudtirol at the dawn of his career. The footballer, after a decent season with Sorrento in the Second Division (category canceled after the last reform of the championships: it was the tournament between the current C and D, ed.), at the beginning of the 2014-2015 championship he moved to the deep north, to try his luck with the Sudtirol shirt, in the First Division (now C). His adventure with the South Tyrolean club, however, was not particularly fruitful. In fact, the former Frosinone and Benevento player played just three games until January. Only one of these as a starter, in the Lega Pro Italian Cup, against Alessandria. The other two, however, in the championship. However, very short clips: a total of 13 minutes plus injury time against Monza and Renate.
After remaining on the sidelines with both Claudio Rastelli and Adolfo Sormani, Canotto moved to Agropoli, in Serie D, with whom he scored 10 goals in the space of a few months. In the following summer, therefore, he moved to Melfi, returning to the profs and from that moment on his career took off. After that unfortunate parenthesis, the attacking winger found his Sudtirol again on three occasions. All three last season. In them he achieved one victory and two defeats, the second of which ousted Reggina from the playoffs. In none of the three did he manage to leave his mark. Will try again tomorrow.
Manuel Marras was also part of that same South Tyrol. The Genoese of Sardinian origins, however, gave another contribution to the cause: 38 matches in all competitions and five goals.
The prize for longevity in the South Tyrolean club goes to Mazzocchi, now injured. The Milanese striker wore the checkered shirt 102 times, scoring 18 goals.
There were also few appearances for Tommaso D’Orazio (17 tokens in total), who arrived in the first part of the last championship, only to then move to Sila in January. First in a temporary formula, then – with salvation – permanently.
Alessandro Micai (20 appearances in the 2013-2014 season) and Filippo Sgarbi also played for the red and whites. The defender, absent tomorrow due to suspension, was one of the elements of Zanetti’s Sudtirol against which Cosenza gained access to the C playoff final in 2018. The central defender, however, did not play the return match on the banks of the Crati due to disqualification.
On the other side, there is Jeremie Broh (19 games with the rossoblù during 2019-2020) but above all Pierpaolo Bisoli. Three months and 17 matches were enough for the Porretta Terme coach to leave an indelible trace of his passage in the history of the Via degli Stadi club.
