Maria Locanto, provincial president of the Democratic Party, was appointed deputy mayor last February. An experience that is added to those made in recent years as a political manager. The passion for politics in this left woman also comes from a significant family experience. For this we asked her questions.

How does this role live?

«Like a beautiful, positive adventure. It is a challenge because the function of local administrator allows you to stay close to people giving you a great human office. For me it is the first administrative experience. I am very appreciating this role and the delegation to the environment excites me ».

She is a “nephew of art”, because Riccardo Misasi was his mother’s brother: is that so?

«My father who died very young, at the age of 40, was the right arm of Misasi. They founded the base left in Calabria together. And my uncle always repeated that my father’s premature disappearance had been “a ruin”. I often saw him my uncle and, among other things, I was at home with my grandparents and my grandfather was the reference point of the basic left also because Uncle Riccardo was in Rome. In short, with him, it was not just a relationship of mere kinship ».

What did he appreciate his uncle?

«First of all, he had a big heart, a great human charge and a great mind that led him to be a humble person despite the roles gradually covered. He had an encyclopedic culture. And he always questioned himself. He was curious and he remained until the last day, he had joy, trust, the hope that children have: a wonderful person. The power had never changed it, it has always remained the same. He cared about the family a lot, I remember the attention he lent me, the grace. “
