Triumphalism animates the center-left. The success of the “No” to justice reform allows the “wide field” to imagine future political scenarios that are brighter than the current ones.
The Democratic Party rejoices with the deputy mayor and regional president of the Dems, Maria Locanto.
«Being the ninth city in which the No prevails with this strength is not a random element, but the sign of an attentive, aware community capable of evaluating the merits of the choices that affect the quality of our democracy. This vote represents”, states the political exponent, “a clear response to a political approach which, at a national and regional level, has too often resulted in announcements without concreteness. The people of Cosenza have demonstrated that they do not accept reforms which, inserted into a broader plan together with the premiership and differentiated autonomy, risk compromising institutional balances and citizens’ rights. The data takes on an even stronger meaning if read in its territorial diffusion: the “No” affirms itself broadly and transversally in the different neighborhoods of the city, from the center to the suburbs, a sign of widespread awareness and a shared demand for justice, fairness and respect for democratic institutions. It is a city that does not let itself be guided by propaganda, but that asks for real answers, effective policies and a credible vision for the future. Cosenza’s vote is a signal that goes beyond the national data: there is also an alternative to the regional government, which too often has proven distant from the real needs of Calabria.”
