“The right to health deserves to have resources, means and professionalism in an appropriate measure for its proper exercise, we cannot think of cutting back on healthcare for the sake of economic savings. The alleged redundancies in the ASP of Vibo, decreed by the Calabria Region, at the basis of the staff cuts made in recent months, have no confirmation in realityas we observe several departments in difficulty and unable to adequately satisfy the demand for health due to the lack of operators”.

This is what the deputy of the 5 Star Movement stated in a note Riccardo Tucci regarding the failure to extend the contracts, which expired on December 31st, of 23 out of 40 “Covid precarious workers”, including health workers and nurses from the provincial health authority of Vibo.

“Already today – continues the parliamentarian – there are inconveniences in the emergency room of the Jazzolino hospital due to the presence of only three nurses and one social-health worker per shift: few to ensure adequate assistance, as indeed some have leaked health workers in service”.

“In fact – adds Tucci – I am aware of brand new sections of the emergency room, such as the Obi, (short intensive observation) which are not active due to lack of staff. Not considering that, in other departments, such as radiology, it is necessary to resort to the recruitment of specialists external to the ASP, through agreements, to guarantee basic healthcare services, with a considerable outlay of money”.

“In light of what has been reported above – concludes the deputy – I invite the commissioners of the ASP of Vibo to review their decision on the 23 “Covid precarious workers” not on contract, recalling them to the workplace, and, in the alternative, the Health Commissioner Roberto Be careful to commit seriously, with facts, to ensuring the essential levels of healthcare assistance in Vibo.
