“The days to come will be decisive, I have defined them as the days of courage. We will verify whether the dream of breaking the power structure that governed the city, preventing its development and growth, is still achievable. I think so. And I also think that the city cannot afford the luxury of being under a commissionership for almost a year, practically causing everything in the field to collapse, from public works to community planning. I am sure that the sense of responsibility and love for the city will prevail in everyone”. The mayor of Catanzaro wrote this on Facebook, Nicholas Floweryfollowing the decision made in the last few hours to reset the Council and start a new political season in Catanzaro.
“I’m only doing this now, with the dust settled. I truly thank from the bottom of my heart the councilors who were part of my Council. It is not easy at all – continued the mayor – to administer a complex city like ours, especially if you consider the decrease in resources and the presence of problems that have been unresolved for decades. They have all worked with passion and commitment, without distinction, also achieving good results in their sectors. The decision to eliminate the Council weighs on me, also from a personal perspective, but it was absolutely necessary to verify the sincere will of each one to continue along the path of renewal which, as we expected, is truly bumpy and full of obstacles. There is one merit, among others, that I want to attribute to this Administration: in two years we have never even remotely been touched by a suspicion and this – looking at the history of the last decades – is a trait that should make the mayor, councilors and all 33 councilors proud. Being without shadows is a fundamental starting point”.
Then a thought to Antonello Talerico “with whom I shared a long political and then administrative journey. I do not forget the battle we fought together in 2017, when we almost reached the runoff against the battleships of Sergio Abramo and Enzo Ciconte, nor that, perhaps even more difficult, of the 2022 runoff. I will not go into the merits of his choice to leave the majority which evidently responds to political logic that I respect. I wish Antonello the best of political fortunes and I am sure that even from his new position he will work for the good of the City”.
Then the look towards the future. “We are working even in these hours, without stopping because we cannot afford breaks. Soon I will do it with the new Board. I would like to point out two important meetings, one dedicated to the design of the new “Ceravolo” stadium and the other to the construction of a second access road to the city that “skips” the Sansinato tunnel. Very positive meetings. For the road, there is already a project for a route downstream, connecting Cavita to the Pratora di Tiriolo area and then directly to the road of the two seas. A strong push is needed to get it financed. It will take time. But to those who criticize us for having thought of it only now, I reply: why didn’t you do it in the decades in which you were in power and had time and money? Let’s move on! The Autumn Festival and its creator Tonia Santacroce in the Corriere della Sera. An extraordinary recognition for the passion and skill with which she transformed a visionary idea into a major national and international event. Tonia Santacroce is a great resource for the city”.
