Crisis in the Municipality of Catanzaro, ultimatum from Forza Italia: «Costanzo signs the no-confidence vote or he is out of the party»

The political climate in the Calabrian capital is becoming heated. At the center of the storm is the future of the administration led by mayor Nicola Fiorita, but above all the internal stability of Forza Italia. With a peremptory note, the Italian provincial secretary Marco Polimeni launched a real ultimatum to the municipal councilor Manuela Costanzo, guilty of being the only member of the group who has not yet placed her signature on the motion of no confidence filed with the notary.

The “moment of truth”

For Polimeni this is not a simple bureaucratic step, but a fundamental test of loyalty. According to the secretary, the phase that Palazzo De Nobili is going through is not an ordinary change, but rather a “moment of political truth” that does not allow for hesitation.

“In politics there are moments in which it is no longer possible to remain in a gray area,” declared Polimeni. “Either we are consistent with the mandate received from the centre-right voters, or we make a different choice, which must be declared with transparency.”

Either/or to councilor Costanzo

The appeal addressed to Manuela Costanzo is “serious and respectful”, but without room for manoeuvre. The provincial secretary reiterated that Forza Italia’s line is clear and shared with the leaders of the coalition. Anyone who does not adapt to the strategy of frontal opposition to the Fiorita junta places themselves, in fact, outside the perimeter of the party.

The expected consequences are drastic:

* Signature requirement: The councilor must sign the ready no-confidence document.
* De facto expulsion: In case of refusal, Polimeni clarifies that Costanzo “will no longer be able to be part of our political project”.

Credibility and party discipline

The fulcrum of Polimeni’s attack lies in the concept of responsibility towards the electorate. For Forza Italia, militancy is not a “formal fact” but a moral constraint. The secretary underlines how voters could not understand a hesitant attitude at a time when the credibility of the entire centre-right political community is at stake.

“Coherence is not an abstract word”, concludes the note, reiterating that the protection of the party’s political action necessarily depends on respect for internal decisions and hierarchies.
