They are being implemented by the staff of the Environmental Police Operational Unit of the Harbor Office port of Crotoneinspection activities aimed at verifying compliance with regulations regarding discharges and waste management. These activities are concentrating, given the time of year, on the oil mills in the province of Crotonein order to verify the methods of treatment and disposal of the vegetation water produced. The objective, in fact, is to prevent potential releases of untreated water into the soil or waterways and, consequently, into the marine and coastal environment, as well as verifying possession of environmental authorizations.
The checks were concentrated in the Municipality of Crotone and in that of Isola Capo Rizzuto and made it possible to ascertain various offenses. In fact, in an oil mill the failure to comply with the legislation regarding the management of the vegetation water produced while in a second time it was ascertained that the authorization for the discharge of industrial water was not in possession. The managers of the inspected commercial activities were referred to the competent judicial authority for violations of the Consolidated Law on environmental matters (Legislative Decree 152/06). At the same time, a total of several environmental requirements were issued to the owners of the inspected commercial activities which, if complied with within the established deadlines, will allow them to be regularised.
