«With firmness and serenity, the documentation will demonstrate the correctness of the management». This was stated by the former secretary of the Uil of Crotone, Fabio Tomaino, speaking on the investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office which sees him under investigation for alleged misappropriation of union funds.

In a note, Tomaino underlines “full respect for the ongoing investigative activity” and says he is convinced that “the accounting, fiscal and administrative documentation already delivered, together with that which we will continue to provide in the next few hours, will allow us to reconstruct the real destination of the sums and demonstrate the correctness of the structure’s actions”.

«Maximum collaboration with investigators»

The former manager reiterates that he has “full and total confidence in the work of the judiciary and the investigative bodies”, highlighting that he is offering maximum collaboration to the investigators.

According to Tomaino, the administrative management of the union structure “has always stood out for its balance sheets which closed largely in the positive”, a regularity which, in his opinion, would be demonstrated “by the impeccable punctuality in the payment of salaries and the complete payment of severance pay to all employees”, a result which “the Uil of Crotone, unlike other structures, has always guaranteed in full”.

The funds and the regret for the public image

As for the destination of the resources, Tomaino claims that «the funds were used to support union activity, organize services and ensure a concrete presence alongside the workers and the territory, especially in the most difficult moments».

The former secretary concludes by expressing “deep regret for the way in which a matter yet to be ascertained has been represented publicly”, believing that this has given “a distorted image of the people involved” and erased “years of commitment and sacrifices in the service of workers”.
