The cruise ship “Spirit of Discovery“encountered a violent storm while carrying a thousand passengers off the coast of France, over 100 injured. Bad weather forced the ship, bound for Britain, to divert its course, canceling a scheduled stop in Las Palmas and attempting to head for La Coruna, Spain.
The ship had to return to the UK due to the closure of the port of La Coruna. During the storm, the ship listed sharply causing mostly minor injuries to the passengers.
Five people required more serious treatment. Once they arrived in Portsmouth the day before yesterday, some of the injured were taken to hospital. Despite an apology from shipping company Saga Cruises, passengers described the situation as “terrifying”, with staff visibly scared and anxious about the dangerous situation.
