The political conflict flares up between Cateno De Luca, leader of South calls North and regional deputy, and the provincial secretary of the Democratic Party, Armando Hyerace. After the latter’s criticisms of De Luca’s presence at Palazzo Zanca, the former mayor of Messina issued a harsh reply, claiming his actions during his years at the helm of the Municipality.
“But why is the provincial secretary of the PD so agitated by my presence at Palazzo Zanca, aimed at a necessary political verification of the implementation of Mayor Basile’s administrative programme?”, De Luca began, underlining that the financial management of his mandate allowed the Municipality to avoid economic collapse.
The former mayor recalled that the recovery plan known as ‘Save Messina’ – which he wanted and approved – would have allowed new hires in the municipal administration.
“If today Hyerace also receives a public salary it is thanks to my no to financial collapse, which the PD, with Antonella Russo and Felice Calabrò, instead called for,” added De Luca, maintaining that without that measure the city would not have been able to hire staff for at least ten years.
The leader of South calls North he then joked about the positions of the democratic secretary, stating that if Hyerace obtained his position through a public competition “either he was good, and therefore the competitions were objective for everyone, or he is one of our infiltrators in the PD”.
The reply ended with a political message with a polemical but also strategic tone:
“Be careful of the recoil effect, because in politics anything can happen and 2027 is upon us. The Roman sirens serenade South calls North for various single-member constituencies in Sicily, so don’t exaggerate in taking positions”, concluded De Luca.
