The controversy rages with foreign policy that agitates the Italian internal one. The Democratic Party attacks Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after Trump’s post on Meloni. The dems, with, among others, De Luca, Gori and Braga, ask the prime minister for clarification:
“The post relaunched by Donald Trump announcing that Meloni would be breaking with the EU on tariffs and withdrawing support from Ukraine is of unprecedented gravity and these things must be denied immediately. These are sensational statements which, if confirmed, would raise enormous doubts about the actions of our government and the economic policies that Italy is adopting. It is urgent and necessary for the Prime Minister to clarify immediately, denying what the US president said.” Thus Piero De Luca, deputy of the Democratic Party and group leader in the European Policies commission.
“Trump on Truth relaunches a video and this text: ‘Giorgia Meloni challenges the European Union and aims for a direct trade agreement with Trump. Excellent move, Meloni. It’s an intelligent choice’. It would be interesting to know if the news has foundation or if Meloni denies Trump”. The MEP of the Democratic Party, Giorgio Gori, wrote it on social media.
“Is it true that Italy would be preparing to negotiate pasta duties directly with the United States and is it true that Italy would be interested in reducing its support for Ukraine? President Trump’s words leave little room for interpretation. Therefore Meloni cannot pretend nothing has happened. He must clarify which side Italy is on and whether it is destined to be Trump’s outpost to break the European front and definitively weaken the European Union which is not only an economic partnership, but also and above all a political pact between states that share values, rights and freedoms”. This was stated in a note by Chiara Braga, leader of the Pd group in the Chamber.
