“The South is paralysed, supermarkets have empty shelves, businesses risk closing and thousands of workers are protesting against high fuel prices.” The Calabria Democratic Party attacks the Meloni government, denouncing in a note a “very serious underestimation of the crisis that is bringing the South to its knees”.
According to the Dems, faced with the economic and social emergency the executive “continues to ignore the reasons of the demonstrators and is even thinking of tightening the rules against road blocks”. An orientation that the party defines as “a political shame, an irresponsible and authoritarian attitude”, accusing the center-right of being distant from the country’s problems.
«Goods in difficulty and damage to production sectors»
The Calabrian Democratic Party recalls the requests of hauliers, farmers, workers and citizens who “for days” have been calling for urgent measures against the cost of fuel and life.
“In Calabria and other southern regions, the distribution of goods is in serious difficulty, there is a lack of food products in supermarkets and entire production sectors are suffering enormous damage”, claims the party. «However, no adequate answers are coming from Palazzo Chigi. The government is concerned with how to stop the protests rather than how to solve the problems that caused them.”
Fraught: «Where are the resources promised to hauliers?»
Senator Nicola Irto, secretary of the Calabria Democratic Party, also intervenes on the possibility of new measures against protests: “If Meloni thinks of tackling this crisis with new sanctions and further restrictions on the right to demonstrate, he is making a very serious mistake.” Irto also asks for clarification on support for the sector: «The Prime Minister must explain why the resources promised to hauliers have not yet arrived».
