The promise of French alpine skiing Margot Simond, 18, died this afternoon during a training on the slopes of the Val d’Isère in Savoy. Margot Simond, athlete of Les Saisies, a special slalom junior national champion, was training in view of the ‘Red Bull Alpine Park’, an event organized by the Clèment Noel champion for the weekend and now canceled following the tragedy.

Margot in the season just ended had made his debut in the European Cup circuit and had participated in the Tarvisio world championships. The Albertville prosecutor has opened an investigation in order to ascertain the causes of the accident. At the beginning of the season during a training in Val Senales in South Tyrol, the Italian Matilde Lorenzi had died while Marco of the men had died a few weeks ago.

For France, another tragedy after those of Règine Cavagnoud who died in 2001 after clashing with a coach during a training on the Pitztal glacier and, more recently, in 2017, David Poisson in Nakiska.
