«Soon we will only eat bread and poison, sorry only poison». The great Totò is always in fashion, as are his words. Even the bakers are making their voices of protest heard. Price increases are too high to keep bakeries open. Wheat and therefore flour increased, and with them electricity, diesel for the transport of goods, gas and wood for the operation of ovens, packaging. In short, a hell that is no longer sustainable. Without excluding labor and strenuous work, carried out mostly at night, without any breaks.
There are 873 bakers in the province of Cosenza, of which 31 only in the vast area of the Upper Ionian Cosenza area which goes from Sibari to Rocca Imperiale. They guarantee bread and everything else to over 200 businesses and therefore to thousands of families, many even travel from Cosenza and Donnici to reach this area, facing expenses and dangers on the road. Since yesterday they too have joined the protests and if necessary they will close their businesses for a few days to raise public awareness, to make their voices of dissent heard loudly against the high cost of living which has now become unsustainable.
Meanwhile, the first citizens of Cerchiara di Calabria, San Lorenzo Bellizzi, Villapiana, Frascineto, Rocca Imperiale, Amendolara and Francavilla Marittima have asked in a letter for a direct discussion with the Government on the difficulties of the agricultural sector and road transport, hoping soon for an institutional summit with the Minister of Agriculture to bring to the attention of the Meloni executive, the enormous difficulties of the Calabrian agricultural sector and the consequences of the road transport crisis on the entire production system.
