“We have repeated many times that differentiated autonomy is an infamous law, and we will soon see the dramatic repercussions on the territory. Now the second phase begins, of full opposition. In fact, we are discussing the collection of signatures, the referendum questions; most likely we will be able to set the referendum for spring 2025”. Thus the regional councilor Amalia Bruni who, yesterday evening in the courtyard of the cloister of San Domenico in Lamezia, opened the debate on the theme “Differentiated autonomy: let’s stop it!”, a multi-voiced meeting moderated by the journalist Maria Rita Galati. Together with the councilor, representatives of the entire center-left, the Third Sector and the union: «A wide field for a road that promises to be long for all democratic forces. The center-left has formed a coalition today – Bruni underlined -. We would like some parts of the right to fight alongside us». The representative of the Democratic Party then ruled: «Governor Occhiuto must choose to stand alongside the Calabrians, we would like Calabria to express itself clearly on the matter and to join the group of the other five regions that have already chosen to appeal to the Constitutional Court».
The former president of the Region also intervened Agatius Loieroa former minister and parliamentarian, who had long been against differentiated autonomy. “Unfortunately, the law has been approved and it will be a disaster that will strike a South that is doing badly and a Calabria that is doing very badly. This measure – the former governor highlighted – ends up accentuating the social destiny of people; those born in Calabria are destined to have few services, to live less than their fellow countrymen in the North and even in worse conditions”. Loiero then added: “It is minor figures who have brought forward the law: the governor of Veneto Zaia who dreams of the glories of the Serenissima at the expense of the South; and then Calderoli who perhaps, with this reform, will earn an eighth legislature. We must rebel against all this”.
For the mayor of Catanzaro, Nicholas Flowery “the broad field that has decided to declare war on differentiated autonomy is a beautiful signal. I feel here in the South a deep and radical opposition to this reform. The Regional Council – the mayor of the capital city asserted – must challenge the law or some parts of it as other regions have done”. Don Giacomo Panizzafounder and president of Comunità Progetto Sud, commented: “Differentiated autonomy already exists; in Lombardy there are already services that we here in the South do not have. Schools, job training, healthcare, in all these areas the differences have increased too much and, therefore, stopping the law is the least we can do. For the Third Sector this is a political choice, that is, stopping differentiated autonomy and building services and opportunities for the South”.
