Over one and a half million euros to municipalities and other territorial entities for the maintenance and purchase of tankers for water supply. This is the total amount of the first contributions authorised by the Sicilian Civil Protection to counteract the severe drought that is affecting the Island. They are over 200 requests received to date to the regional department according to the methods indicated by the general manager Salvo Cocina and 109 interventions authorized since the month of May. Interventions that are part of the Plan for the water emergency, for the implementation of which the president of the Region, Renato Schifaniwas appointed commissioner delegate.
The sums are distributed as follows: 977 thousand euros to repair 98 tankers, 389 thousand euros to buy 10 used ones And 167 thousand euros to buy a new one.
For the most part, therefore, it involves maintenance work on vehicles already available to the institutions. The contribution for the purchase of a new tanker, instead, was granted to the Union of Municipalities of the Nebrodi (Caprileone, San Marco d’Alunzio and San Salvatore di Fitalia). The Municipalities of Agrigento, San Giovanni Gemini (Ag), San Cataldo (Cl), Aidone (En), Castronovo di Sicilia and Caccamo (Pa), Patti, Caronia and Gioiosa Marea (Me) have obtained authorization for the sums necessary for the purchase of used tankers ready for delivery. Once all requests for ready-to-deliver vehicles have been exhausted, funding for new tanker trucks will be provided, where the requesting Municipalities and suppliers ensure delivery and commissioning times compatible with those of the current emergency and in any case, generally speaking, by August/September.
