The national control room for the water emergency, chaired by the Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, approved the proposals put forward by the Sicilian Region, through the commissioner in charge Nicola Dell’Acqua, to proceed with the reactivation of the three watermakers in Porto Empedocle, Gela and Trapanithrough temporary modules while waiting for the definitive ones, so as to be able to guarantee citizens the supply of water by next June.

The process involves restoring, through emergency procedures, the three watermakers that have been decommissioned for over ten years and installing three temporary modules by June, which will subsequently be incorporated into the definitive systems, so as to reach a supply of 500-600 liters per second. The structural sea intake works will be carried out in such a way as to allow an increase in production of up to 50%, up to approximately 900 liters of water per second. The regional government has already identified the necessary resources by allocating 90 million euros within the Cohesion Agreement signed with the national government and another 10 million from the regional budget.
