On the occasion of the Ferragosto holiday, the Carabinieri of the Milazzo company have controls have been intensified on the territory of the Mamertina town and on the entire Aeolian archipelago. Patrol services have therefore been implemented with the setting up of checkpoints, even during the night, with the aim of preventing and repressing any form of illegality, as well as verifying compliance with the Highway Code.
During road traffic checks, The Carabinieri checked over 510 people and more than 320 cars, issuing 78 traffic violationsincluding failure to have insurance coverage, failure to use a helmet and seat belts, as well as the use of a cell phone while driving, driving with an expired or suspended license and failure to have motor vehicle inspections, behaviors that seriously endanger the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
As part of the checks, the Carabinieri have 5 people reported to the Judicial Authority for driving under the influence of psychophysical alteration due to the use of narcotic substancesone for refusing to verify the use of narcotic substances, two others for driving under the influence of alcohol and finally one for refusing to verify the use of alcohol. In the same context, six individuals were reported, at liberty, to the AG for having participated in two separate brawls. In addition, targeted services were carried out, aimed at verifying compliance with the various mayoral ordinances which, in the summer period, in order to allow tourists and residents to spend their holidays in safety and tranquility, regulate the closing times of the premises, the noise emissions from the premises authorised to broadcast music and the maximum capacity of the same premises. In this context, for failure to comply with these rules, 6 fines were issued to the same number of public establishments.
Another 24 people, instead, were reported to the Prefecture of Messina, as drug users, since they were found in possession of small quantities of cocaine, hashish and marijuana held for personal use. All the seized drugs were sent to the Carabinieri of the RIS of Messina for laboratory analysis.
The intensification of the control services of the Carabinieri of the Milazzo Company, in conjunction with the greater exodus of tourists that annually, especially in the summer period, crowds the Mamertina area and the Aeolian archipelago, with greater presence of people in the nightlife areas and in the night clubs, will continue throughout the summer. The services will be carried out with patrols and checkpoints, even during the night, with the help of soldiers assigned as reinforcements and with the collaboration of other departments of the Arma, in order to combat crimes in general and to protect citizens.
