After an annulment with postponement ordered by the Supreme Court, the Court of Review of Reggio Calabria revoked the arrest order against Matteo Costanza, 53 years old, involved in the “Millennium” investigation on charges of international trafficking of narcotic substances. The man was extradited from Spain in July last year after two months of the police raid which led to the arrest of 97 people. According to investigators, Costanza was one of the brokers in the international drug trafficking busted in the operation coordinated by the DDA of Reggio Calabria. In particular, the prosecutors consider him the contact in Spain of Platì’s Barbaro «Castani» gang.
Owner of a company in Malaga specializing in the trade of cars, Costanza, through the corruption of customs officials, managed to manage the importation into Europe of large shipments of cocaine from South America. An accusatory system contested by the lawyers Alessandro Diddi and Davide Vigna who, after Costanza’s extradition, had presented an appeal to the Court of Review which confirmed the precautionary measure ordered by the investigating judge against the suspect. With a ruling dated February 2026, the Court of Cassation accepted the defense’s appeal, postponing the documents to a new Tdl before which the lawyers reiterated the lack of serious indications of guilt. On 15 April, therefore, the Review revoked the arrest order and ordered his release.
