An earthquake shock magnitude ML 3.3 was recorded this evening, January 21st, at 9.34pm, in Southern Tyrrhenian Sea. According to data released byNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the seismic event had its epicenter in the sea and a depth of approximately 271 kilometers.

The earthquake, although it did not cause damage to people or things, occurred slightly felt in some areas of north-eastern Sicily and along the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria, also due to the high depth of the hypocentre.

The event is part of a context of persistent seismic activity in the Messina area, where a seismic swarm has been underway for several days. In the last few hours the INGV has recorded numerous tremors of low and medium intensity, concentrated above all in the Nebrodi area and along the Tyrrhenian coast, with epicenters located mainly in Militello Rosemary — where the strongest magnitude shock was recorded ML 3.6 — and in the municipalities of Alcara Li Fusi, Sweet and watery, San Fratello e Joyful Tide.
