Roberto Occhiuto was proclaimed president of the Calabria Region. The proclamation took place this afternoon in the Court of Appeal in Catanzaro following the checks carried out by the central electoral office. Occhiuto therefore returns to the helm of the Region again, after his resignation and early voting compared to the natural deadline. Now the confirmed Governor is called to launch his second council and for this reason he has scheduled a meeting in Rome with the national representatives of the parties that support him.
From tomorrow negotiations with parties on the council
“We will see whether to appoint the council first or wait for the establishment of the regional council” he highlighted. «I already have some ideas – said Occhiuto – but I will then have to compare them with the parties. There are many variables to consider, we need to create a balanced council by electoral district and gender composition. So I will first talk to the parties to understand what ideas they have and which candidates they propose. I haven’t spoken to the parties yet. There were some telephone exchanges just to arrange appointments.”
«As you know – he added – there is the substitute councilor rule, approved in the last legislature. I therefore assume that most of the indications from the parties will be reported to regional councilors. Furthermore, if they were accepted on the lists it is because they evidently had the qualities to be candidates. They will have to demonstrate that they also have the qualities to be councillors.”
An imminent reorganization of the regional bureaucratic machine was then announced. «I believe already tonight or tomorrow – said Occhiuto – with the monocratic powers I will organize the Region. All the general managers will expire and then we will see which ones are confirmed and which ones are not.”
New appointment as health commissioner soon
Roberto Occhiuto, proclaimed today president of the Calabria Region, will soon be appointed again as commissioner ad acta for the healthcare recovery plan. Occhiuto himself announced this on the sidelines of the ceremony at the Court of Appeal in Catanzaro.
«The Council of Ministers – he said – intended to temporarily assign me the powers of commissioner for health until I leave the commissionership which I hope will happen in the next few weeks. Therefore, I will be fully functional also with regards to healthcare governance.”
On the question of leaving the commissionerate, the re-elected president of the Region clarified that «the return plan must be sent to two bodies: the State-Regions Conference and a specific body which must examine it. This body was not even established. Last week at the Conference of the Regions we decided on its constitution, so we will have to wait the fateful thirty days. Since I intend to proceed with a review of the governance of healthcare companies as well – he concluded – there was a need for someone to sign and take on this responsibility, so I asked the government to give me these powers until we exit the commissionerate”.
