The regional council has given the final green light to the Urban Strategy linked to the PR Calabria Fesr/Fse 2021/2027, commonly known as the Urban Agenda; a fundamental development tool with a basic financial allocation set, for the city of Catanzaro, at 13.47 million euros and with the possibility of accessing a further 3.3 million euros in rewards for interventions with the highest social impact, which therefore brings the total potential to almost 17 million.

“We are finally entering the implementation phase of the Urban Agenda, after a long and complex process – comments the mayor Nicola Fiorita – the result of intense and fruitful planning work and constant dialogue within us, with the social partnership and with the Calabria Region itself. The final result is a tool made up of a set of urban regeneration actions and interventions for cohesion, innovation and sustainability, to make Catanzaro a more connected, fair and dynamic. As we have already had the opportunity to explain – adds the mayor – our general Urban Agenda strategy can be summarized in cultural valorisation, in the interconnection of the four historic centres, Catanzaro Centro, S. Maria, Gagliano and Lido, in social and identity promotion. Compared to the previous programming, of which we also retain some interventions to be completed and therefore binding, the new programming is less oriented towards actions of a infrastructural and more aimed at interventions of an intangible nature. This – Fiorita continued – is in relation to two needs that we strongly feel: focusing more on the valorisation and promotion of social and human capital in development processes, also to give added value to the redeveloped real estate assets; focus on predominantly intangible and rapidly executed interventions, to allow greater speed in spending and carrying out the financed operations. So straight to work – concluded the mayor – without forgetting that the Urban Agenda interventions are part of a broader program that aims at sustainable urban development, integrating with further initiatives already planned or underway in the area”.
