The Environment Department of the Calabria Region has forwarded observations to the Ministry regarding the offshore wind farm project called “Enotria”. This is a negative opinion that takes into account the various environmental issues that had been raised by the Municipalities in recent months. The Region has, in fact, highlighted that in the Gulf of Squillace alone there are up to twenty nests of Caretta Caretta turtles every year and that the shovels could hinder the routes of the migratory species that cross the Ionian Sea. The Superintendence had also asked for further explanations, asking the company to present further additions. The Mayor of Botricello Saverio Simone Puccio stated: “The theses that we have supported, from day one, as the Municipality of Botricello and together with all the Mayors involved, have been accepted by the Calabria Region. We have maintained a coherent and determined profile, without being dragged into sterile controversies that do not serve the community. We exposed ourselves while remaining faithful to only one line, that of avoiding the construction of several wind farms in the Gulf of Squillace and this brought the desired results”.
Both the opinion of the Calabria Region and that of the Municipality of Botricello are part of the official documents published by the Ministry of the Environmenton the other hand, it is precisely from the Ministry’s website that the documents in question were extrapolated. This belies the imaginative reconstructions of those who have always addressed this topic with superficiality and incoherence. The delay in the transmission of the documents is only a bureaucratic fact which has not affected anything, neither for the Municipality nor for the Region.
Mayor Puccio added: “We prefer to look at the results obtained and the great work carried out, rather than dedicating time to those who are simply busy denigrating the opponent, trying to shift attention from the objectives achieved in just over two years . Personal insults, insinuations and bombastic adjectives are part of an old way of doing politics that doesn’t interest us. We will not go down to the same level. They now represent the past, while we have the obligation to look forward with commitment and determination.”
The Municipal Administration of Botricello expressed its “thanks to the Environment Department and the Calabria Region for having analyzed the project with attention and sensitivity, allowing us to concretely defend our territory”.
