It will take place in Viareggio, from Thursday 19th to Sunday 22nd nextthe twenty-first edition of the Italian Cup organized by the National Medici Calcio team. President Giovanni Borrelli and secretary Francesco Stanzione, at the end of a series of inspections of accommodation facilities and football fields and meetings with local administrators, obtained the green light to hold the event in a highly sought-after location.
The Coppa Italia will be part of the “Giornate della salute”, organized by Motore Sanita’, scheduled in Viareggio next week. An event that aims to explore issues related to patients’ rights and identify concrete proposals to improve the NHS and healthcare in general. Debates, work sessions, plenary sessions, thematic workshops, round tables are planned, which will also include the Minister of Sport, Abodi, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Maria Teresa Bellucci, the Undersecretary of State with responsibility for technological innovations, Senator Alessio Butti, the President of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani and local institutions, who will follow the entire event and on Sunday morning at the end of the final will award the winning teams.
Eleven teams were present, a record compared to the last editions, confirming the growing interest in the events of the National Medici Calcio team which, thanks to sound management, has grown more and more, even crossing national borders (last June the Tricolori were held in Albania).
Competing for the trophy will be Melito Porto Salvo (the team that has won the most Italian Cups, 7), Milano Brianza (3 successes), Cosenza and Trinacria Palermo (2), Napoli (2), Napoli Flegrea and Palermo (1). Taranto, Salerno, Avellino and Bologna are also at the starting line, trying to take home the coveted trophy for the first time. Last year, Napoli Flegrea won, defeating Melito 3-1 in the final played in Cotronei, in Sila. In the past, the Coppa Italia was also won three times by Reggio Calabria and once by Florence and Bari. Two groups of 4 teams and one of 3 are formed. At the end of the first phase, a single general ranking will be drawn up. The first eight will advance to the quarter-finals, which will be played on Saturday morning, with the semi-finals in the afternoon. The teams excluded from the quarter-finals will play a triangular tournament on Saturday morning. The playing fields are the “Luciano Martini” and the “Marco Polo” sports complex. The final for first and second place will be played at the “Marco Polo” on Sunday 22 September at 10 am.
