Expensive rent issue in Rende: here is the students’ recipe

September, in Rende, is never a neutral month. It is the moment in which thousands of Calabrian students return to compete with a rental market which, year after year, becomes more expensive, more distant from the reality of family incomes.
In the university area, the figures have now exceeded thresholds that until a few years ago would have seemed unthinkable: 450 euros for a single room, 370 for a double room, two-room and three-room apartments that approach 750 euros in the peripheral areas. What once guaranteed dignified autonomy today is not even enough for a shared room. The Aula Studio Liberata collective of Unical, intervening in the debate, reminds us that we are not faced with a sudden phenomenon. The rental market has been growing for decades, following a dynamic that every summer starts from the university area and then expands to the entire territory.
