The Finance Police of the Provincial Command of Cosenza and the military personnel of the Port Authority, in execution of the emergency order issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paola, have submitted to preventive seizure of an entire seaside tourist complex located in the municipality of Scalea as well as all the structures and equipment related to it.
In particular, the operation carried out by the Guardia di Finanza of Scalea and the Maratea Maritime District Office involved a state-owned area of total 6,550 m2, consisting of an area intended for laying deckchairs and umbrellas (beach) and another intended for tourist/recreational reception (residential units and kitchen/bar services), arbitrarily occupied – as not legitimized by the possession of a valid and effective prior concession title – from a company already holding 3 maritime state concessions which were found to have expired.
The activity carried out by the Guardia di Finanza of Scalea and the Maratea Maritime District Office demonstrates the constant commitment of the Fiamme Gialle and the Coast Guard aimed at protecting and safeguarding the maritime state property. According to the principle of the presumption of innocence, the guilt of the legal representative under investigation in relation to the matter will be definitively ascertained only if an irrevocable sentence of conviction occurs.
