The administrative elections for the renewal of the mayor and the municipal council of Mojo Alcantara, in the province of Messina, will take place on Sunday 17 and Monday 18 November.
The Schifani government decided this afternoon, at the end of the council meeting, on the proposal of the regional councilor for Local Authorities, Andrea Messina. It is a Municipality under the administration of the Prefectural Commission and now, with the return to the polls, citizens will be able to choose their representatives, thus returning to ordinary administration. The elections, as provided for by Legislative Decree 7 of 2024, will take place on Sunday from 7:00 to 23:00 and on Monday from 7:00 to 15:00. Only in the event that the two most voted mayoral candidates obtain the same number of preferences, will there be a run-off, on Sunday 1 and Monday 2 December.
Among the Sicilian municipalities under special administration is also Castiglione di Siciliain the province of Catania, whose Prefectural Commission will expire on November 25, unless by next October 5, a decree of the President of the Republic decides to extend it for a further 6 months.
“The election date – underlines Councilor Messina – takes into account the interest of guaranteeing local communities not only the exercise of a constitutionally guaranteed right, but also to actively participate in the second level elections of the administrators of the Free Municipal Consortia which, as prescribed by regional law 24 of last August, must take place between the first and 31 December of this year. The date chosen takes into account the possibility that Castiglione di Sicilia could also go to the polls, an eventuality that would allow its inhabitants to actively participate in the election of the administrators of the Free Municipal Consortium of Catania”.
