Not only Max Verstappen and George Russell, but also Chris Horner and Toto Wolff lit the flames of controversy at the Abu Dhabi weekend. After the accusations that the Briton leveled at the world champion for the maneuver that hindered him in qualifying in Qatar and which resulted in the penalty for the Dutchman, the team principals of Red Bull and Mercedes entered the field. It was Chris Horner who gave the first «blow»: «Russell was quite hysterical that weekend, and the penalty was based on this. I think they played on this situation. It was a very strange decision, both Max and George were in their slow laps. I had the impression that George and Mercedes made a drama out of it.” Words which were followed by very harsh ones from Mercedes team principal Wolff: «I tell you very clearly. If this thing concerns the pilots, I don’t want to get involved in this matter. But if the other team principal calls George hysterical, for me it crosses the line. Now, his forte is certainly not intellectual psychoanalysis. How dare you comment on the mental state of my driver? But thinking about it, I spent 90 seconds thinking about it and responding to that little terrier who barks and always has something to say.”
