The Catanzaro court, prevention measures section, reserved the decision on the request for revocation of the judicial administration which was ordered last 16 September against Effeccì Crotone, a football club that plays in the Serie C championship, in application of article 34 of the anti-mafia code. The measure was inspired by the investigative findings developed following the investigations of the Catanzaro DDA called Glicine-Acheronte from which indicative elements emerged – according to the investigators – of how the activity of the rossoblù club in recent years has been subjected, directly or indirectly, to the conditioning of ‘Ndrangheta gangs rooted in the Crotone area. The defense of the football club, which today requested the revocation of the provision at the Catanzaro court, produced some documents which were not present in the file and which therefore the judges had not been able to evaluate. Such as those relating to the figure of Sandro Oliverio, majority shareholder and director of Seral, a company appointed by FC Crotone for security in the period between 2017 and 2023, which according to what is stated in the provision would have been the instrument through which the ‘Ndrangheta would have exercised its power of intimidation over the company. The FC Crotone defender recalled that the Catanzaro review court, in July 2023, a few days after the arrest, annulled the personal precautionary measure applied to Oliverio for the crime of participation in a mafia association due to his complete non-involvement in any criminal context. The same Review noted how Seral had communicated to the police force the list of stewards it used. Oliverio was later acquitted of all charges in the summary trial. Nonetheless, FC Crotone replaced Seral with Securpol which, at that time, was carrying out security checks in the Crotone courthouse on behalf of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. As for the driver of the FC Crotone bus believed to be affiliated with organized crime, the documents – according to the company’s defense – show that he was an employee of a transport company with which FC Crotone had concluded a contract to manage the team’s travel. With regard to the wiretaps which document the purchase by the boss of the Papanice gang, Domenico Megna, of tickets for some matches played by FC Crotone when they played in Serie A, the defense underlined how the fact that the company did not give the tickets to its affiliates nor was pressured on their part to do so demonstrates the non-existence of subjection to the gangs, the same one that justified the adoption of the administration’s measure judicial review of which the revocation was requested.
