“We have understood for some time, and it has been reiterated here today, that quality is more important than quantity and we, as a Region, must aim to make our niche products stand out for their quality. Aspiring to this goal is as fundamental as the use of identity products to which the story of the territory must necessarily be added, acquiring this oratory art that has not always belonged to us in presenting our Calabria”.
This was stated by the councilor for agriculture, Gianluca Gallo, during the presentation in the Cittadella of the twenty-fourth edition of the World Spicy Pizza Championship which will be held in Scalea on 28 and 29 October.
“For an event to reach its twenty-fourth edition means tenacity and determination despite everything, resisting time and, indeed, involving important regional and national partners and for this reason it was correct for the Region to support it. An event – continued councilor Gallo – which is measured on the territory, specializing in spicy and becoming attractive despite being seasonally adjusted, telling itself outside, not only of the regional but also national territory. I thank for this reason all those who through this event contribute to telling the story of this extraordinary Calabria, which we believe in and for which each of us must make a contribution, a great project for the growth of a region through the potential that perhaps it has never fully used”.
In addition to councilor Gallo and the director of Arsac Fulvia Calugiuri, the president of the Movimento pizzaioli italiani association and founder of the World Spicy Pizza Championship, Francesco Matellicani, spoke to present the initiative; the general director of the Italian Pizza Chef Movement, Roberto Mandarano; the councilor with responsibility for territorial marketing of the Municipality of Scalea, Fabio Ferrara; the founder of the Cala brewery, Antonio De Caprio.
The participants in the Championship come not only from other Italian regions, but also from France, Spain, Belgium, Albania, Estonia, Bulgaria, the Canary Islands and also from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Sri Lanka.
Present were chef Enzo Barbieri and the outgoing champion of the Championship, Luigi Zampina who, through his profession as a pizza chef and in a showcase like a program broadcast on Sky, talks about Calabria.
The World Spicy Pizza Championship also has a social aspect, the proceeds will go to support regional and national organizations active in the fight against cancer.
