Just under 400 thousand euros, this is how much one of his former professors, Umberto Aguglia, will have to pay to the Magna Graecia University of Catanzaro. This was decided by the Court of Auditors. At the center of the story is the private professional activity that the Neurology professor allegedly carried out in his private practice in Reggio Calabria. The hypothesis of tax damage had emerged as part of an investigation by the Reggio Finanza Guardia di Finanza. In a report from June 2020, the yellow flames highlighted that the professor carried out, without authorisation, extra-institutional professional activities incompatible with his work commitment as a full-time lecturer at the University of Catanzaro. The freelance activity would have consisted of carrying out specialist visits at his private practice from 2013 to 2018. According to the defence, represented by the lawyer Alfredo Gualtieri, the teacher would have been authorized to carry out the freelance activity because, as director of the Regional Epilepsy Center at the “Bianchi – Melacrino Morelli” hospital in Reggio Calabria, whose activity is regulated by an agreement with the Umg, he would be linked by “non-exclusive single-hour relationship”.
