The United States is planning to establish a large military base in Israel, near the Gaza border, which will be used by international forces operating inside the Strip to maintain the ceasefire, Ynet and Shomrim report.
According to the two Israeli newspapers, the facility is expected to house several thousand soldiers, with an estimated cost of around $500 million. A security official told media that the move constitutes a significant shift for Israel, which has traditionally sought to minimize international involvement in territories under its control, and underlines Washington’s determination to take an active role in Gaza and the conflict.
