Carpet checks among commercial activities, streets and public areas. It is the balance sheet of the joint service carried out in Crotone as part of the national and transnational plan “Focus ‘Ndrangheta”, established by the Crotone police commissioner Renato Panvino after the decisions taken by the provincial committee for public order and safety, chaired by the prefect Franca Ferraro.
The operation was attended by the State Police, Carabinieri, Financial Police, local police, ASP personnel and the Port Authority. The checks involved people, vehicles and commercial establishments, with particular attention to the main road arteries of the city.
During an inspection by the administrative police in a food and drink administration activity, the intervention of the ASP was requested to verify the hygienic-sanitary conditions of the food, meat and fish products stored in the cold room. At the end of the investigations, instructions were given for the restoration of minimum hygienic-sanitary and structural conditions.
The traffic police instead checked four activities. In a body shop the owner was sanctioned for the lack of the single authorization document, with a fine of 5,164 euros, and the equipment was seized. In a rental business, the illegal exercise of the activity was contested, with a fine of 1,032 euros. Another investigation concerned a vehicle whose construction characteristics had been modified: the driver was fined 430 euros and had his registration document withdrawn.
Two street traders also ended up in the crosshairs of the controls. The first sold in a public area in a fixed location even though it only had a license for itinerant trading. The second instead carried out sales in a fixed location without any authorization. For both, administrative fines of 5,164 euros each were imposed, for a total of 10,328 euros. The administrative seizure of the equipment and goods was also triggered: a total of 770 kilos of fruit and vegetables were seized.
In terms of road traffic, a total of eight violations of the Highway Code were reported. In detail, the Flying Police officers identified 419 people and checked 244 vehicles, also carrying out home checks on people subjected to measures limiting personal freedom. The overall budget of the operation speaks of 545 people checked, 97 of whom have criminal records, and 300 vehicles subjected to checks. 10 commercial businesses were inspected and 5 administrative sanctions were contested for a total value of approximately 17 thousand euros.
