Catanzaro footballer Enrico Brignola has been acquitted by the National Federal Court in the betting case. The Giallorossi striker, reported for events that occurred when he was registered with Benevento, was involved with former teammates Gaetano Letizia, Christian Pastina and Francesco Forte: Letizia was acquitted exactly like Brignola despite the federal prosecutor having requested three years and six months of disqualification for the first and three years for the second. Pastina and Forte, on the other hand, were sanctioned, respectively, with a two-year ban and a 15 thousand euro fine and with a nine-month plus 6 thousand euro fine. Forte, on loan to Cosenza last season, had proposed a plea bargain in May that was rejected by the FIGC.
All four players had been reported on May 28, following a report from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Benevento, for violation of art. 4, paragraph 1, of the Sports Justice Code, and for violation of article 24, paragraphs 1 and 2, of the Sports Justice Code, for having placed – at least from the 2021/22 sports season and in the 2022/23 sports season – bets – directly or through a third party both with authorized parties and with parties, and platforms, not authorized to receive them – concerning results relating to official matches organized within the FIGC and foreign professional football championships. The decision of the National Federal Court arrived on the afternoon of July 29, following the hearing held in the morning in Rome.
