An institutional mission that aims to transform international relations into concrete development opportunities for Calabria. This is the meaning of the meetings started today in Mar del Plata by the mayor of Caccuri, Luigi Quintieri, appointed by a Calabrian company leader in the healthcare sector to initiate discussions aimed at the selection of approximately 50 healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, destined to be included in the company’s workforce.
During the day, Quintieri met Adrian Alasino, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and reference point for the network of Argentine medical faculties, and subsequently Andrea Varischetti, Consul of Mar del Plata, laying the foundations for a path that has aroused significant interest in academic and diplomatic circles.
The support of prof. is fundamental in the organization and institutional connection of the mission. Daniel Antenucci of the National University of Mar del Plata, to whom Mayor Quintieri extended particular thanks.
«I thank the Calabrian company that believed in this initiative and entrusted me with a task that I consider to be of great responsibility – declares the mayor Luigi Quintieri – and I thank the Argentine academic and diplomatic authorities for their availability. Today’s comparison demonstrates how important it can be to build bridges between universities, institutions and businesses in our two countries.”
At the center of the mission there is a vision that Quintieri intends to propose as a possible model to address one of the most profound emergencies in Calabria and the entire South: the depopulation of small municipalities.
«As mayor of a small Calabrian village – underlines Quintieri – I think the time has come to imagine a true “reverse emigration”. For decades we have witnessed the departure of our young people to other regions and other countries. Today we must create the conditions so that professionalism, skills, families and investments can follow the reverse path and look to Calabria as a place in which to build their future.”
A perspective that is not limited to the healthcare sector, but aims to develop a stable network of relationships between Calabria and Argentina, involving the academic world, the Calabrian and Italian communities, entrepreneurs and institutions.
The institutional delegation led by the mayor of Caccuri is accompanied by the president of the Caccuri Literary Prize, Adolfo Barone, and by the municipal councilor Antonio Falbo.
The mission will continue today with meetings with the Calabrian associations present in Mar del Plata and with an appointment dedicated to some local entrepreneurs interested in learning about and evaluating investment opportunities in Calabria.
«Caccuri wants to be not only the place from which this initiative starts – concludes Quintieri – but a connection point between Calabria and Argentina. If we manage to transform these relationships into jobs, investments, training and new opportunities, we will have demonstrated that even a small municipality can play a role in an international territorial development strategy.”
The declared objective is ambitious: to make international cooperation a concrete tool to combat depopulation, transforming traditional migratory dynamics into new opportunities for growth for Calabria and its villages.
