Born in Furnari, in the Messina area, in 1926, Mercadante belongs to that rare generation of scholars who experienced history not as spectators, but as protagonists. Philosopher, jurist, university professor, cultural animator, publisher and talent discoverer, his human story coincides with almost a century of Italian intellectual life.
