On the occasion of the 59th World Day for Peace, the Diocese of Mileto-Nicotera-Tropea wanted to make a concrete sign of peace and solidarity, at the conclusion of the Jubilee of Hope. Yesterday, Monsignor Attilio Nostro, Bishop of the Diocese, sent to His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, a total economic contribution of 35,000 euros, intended for the children and families of the Holy Family Parish of Gaza, severely affected by the consequences of the ongoing conflict. The initiative arises from the synergy between the Diocese of Mileto-Nicotera-Tropea and three important entities in the Calabrian territory: Unindustria Calabria, ANCE Calabria and Comunità Maranathà Onlus, who have chosen to join forces in a concrete gesture of solidarity and fraternal closeness towards the population of the Holy Land.
In the accompanying message addressed to Patriarch Pizzaballa, the Bishop wrote: «With this small gesture of charity we wish to bring some comfort to the children of Gaza, marked by suffering too great for their age. Let us continue to pray for her and for peace.” The contribution, sent on the last day of 2025, represents a tangible sign of the solidarity of the Calabrian Church, in dialogue with the business and associative world, towards the populations of the Holy Land. Monsignor Nostro also expressed heartfelt thanks to the parish priests and parish communities of the Diocese, underlining that the sum collected is the result of the annual Missionary Collection, a concrete sign of the generosity and participation of the people of God. At the beginning of the new civil year, this gesture intends to reaffirm that hope, the central theme of the Jubilee Year, translates into responsibility and concrete actions, especially in favor of those who risk losing it due to war and suffering.
