In Lamezia Terme, in front of the regional leadership of the Democratic Party, Nicola Irto outlined a clear and rhetoric-free assessment of the vote on 5 and 6 October. “The Democratic Party held up, but this cannot console us,” he admitted, pointing to the coalition’s difficulties in some territories. Calling for a restart, the Calabrian dem leader underlined the need for a broad project, capable of re-establishing the centre-left, recovering contact with society and involving fresh energies. Recognizing the work of Pasquale Tridico, Irto highlighted the urgency of building solid leadership and transforming the newfound unity into a concrete political proposal. With the center-right solid in the Region, the secretary outlined a strong but proactive opposition, a shadow government capable of restoring credibility to the center-left to stand as a serious alternative to the center-right.
