An extraordinary success. Ten minutes of applause greeted the national preview of “Full of Grace”, the docufilm produced by Manetti Bros and financed by the Film Commission Calabria on the Varia festival in Palmi. The religious and popular event has become an intangible heritage of humanity.
In the crowded auditorium of the Maxxi Museum in Rome, director Andree Lucini and screenwriter Desiree Manetti explained to the audience the meaning of their intense documentary, obtaining widespread critical and public acclaim. Antonio and Marco Manetti (the Manetti Bros) in turn illustrated the reason for the choice to produce the work with their production company Monpracem.
“A documentary” they said “that looks at the Varia in a different way”. It’s true because Lucini’s work tells the emotions, the expectations, the love of girls just eleven years old eager to play the role of the “Soul”. A role that will see the chosen one placed 16 meters high to represent the Madonna’s ascent to heaven. The documentary, with its great narrative effectiveness, provoked strong emotions among the public and numerous reflections on the intrinsic value of popular religiosity and on the traditions that accompany and mark the life of the communities of Southern Italy.
