From 12 today, the chapel of rest will be set up in Palazzo dei Bruzi, in the reception hall, for the last farewell to Pino Iacinomayor of the city of Cosenza from 1975 to 1980, first socialist mayor of the city of Bruzi and former councilor and regional councilor passed away yesterday. The coffin was welcomed by the mayor Franz Caruso and the President of the City Council, Giuseppe Mazzuca.

The news of Pino Iacino’s passing had already been commented last night by Caruso with words of deep condolence and emotion.

“News that I would never have wanted to learn and which pains and fills the city of Cosenza, the entire community and all Calabrian socialists with sadness – he commented. Pino Iacino, the first socialist Mayor of the city of Cosenza is no longer with us.”

“The affection that bound us and that he always showed me, as well as our common socialist militancy, make his passing even more painful because it leaves an unbridgeable void. A respectable man, of great virtues, a passionate and intellectually honest politician, Pino Iacino – Franz Caruso underlined – he was a socialist of high caliber and profile, who throughout his existence never betrayed his ideals, deeply rooted in the key principles of the reformist political tradition. His political-administrative season at the helm of the city comes remembered as an example of good administration and as a particularly significant moment in that Cosenza was governed, for the first time, by a socialist council composed of PSI, PCI and PSDI. In this painful moment I express, together with all the Municipal administration, my deepest condolences and my most affectionate closeness to the family.”

The message of condolence from the President of the City Council, Giuseppe Mazzuca, for the passing of Pino Iacino

Saddened by the passing of Pino Iacino, this morning, together with the Mayor Franz Caruso, I welcomed the coffin at Palazzo dei Bruzi where the funeral home was set up in honor of the first socialist Mayor of Cosenza”. This was stated by the Prime Minister Giuseppe Mazzuca, expressing feelings of deep condolences on behalf of himself and the entire City Council. “A cultured and respectable man, a long-standing politician, appreciated and esteemed by all – continues the President Giuseppe Mazzuca – Pino Iacino has marked the history of the Cosenza left with his union. In fact, from 1975 to 1980, with foresight and political-administrative vision, he led the first red council of the city of Cosenza supported by socialists, communists and social democrats. He was subsequently elected Regional Councilor and then appointed Councillor. Even in the Region, an action that was always authentically socialist and reformist continued. Values and ideals to which he has always remained strongly rooted. A man, a professional and a politician from another era. Pino Iacino will be commemorated in the coming weeks, with the consent of the family, also by the City Council which I have the burden and honor of presiding so that his figure can also be held up as an example for the new generations. In reiterating my feelings of deep condolences – concludes Giuseppe Mazzuca – I express my deepest and most heartfelt closeness to the family”.

Tomorrow in Cosenza there will be citizen mourning and the municipal buildings will display flags at half-mast.
