Contacts are intensified for a possible agreement between Hamas and Israel, while the negotiators of the two sides met in Egypt for a new round of talks considered crucial to end a war that has lasted for almost two years now.

A high Hamas official, cited by the AFP agency, said that the Islamist movement “is very interested in reaching an agreement to end the war and immediately start the process of exchange of prisoners based on the field conditions”.

The appeal comes while on the ground the situation remains tense and the international community intensifies diplomatic efforts to encourage a stable truce and the release of all the hostages still held in the Gaza Strip.
