One person died and eight others, including a child who is said to be in good condition, are still buried under rubble following the collapse of part of a hotel in Kroevon the banks of the Moselle, in a wine-growing area of Rhineland-Palatinate. As reported by the German press, rescue operations are still ongoing and the reason for the collapse is not yet known.

Kroev is located about a hundred kilometers from Frankfurt, not far from the border with Luxembourg. The accident occurred late yesterday evening; when a floor of the building collapsed, there were 14 people in the hotel, and 5 were saved. The firefighters sent to the scene managed to communicate with some of the people trapped under the rubble, some are seriously injured and the rescuers have not yet recovered the body of the victim. The rescue operations, police report, are made very difficult by the instability of the part of the building that did not collapse and the likelihood of further collapses. About thirty people who were in neighboring buildings were also evacuated due to the risk of damage that a complete collapse could cause to the surrounding environment.
The Moselle region is a popular summer tourist destination, with its picturesque vineyards and castles.
