Giorgia Meloni and Mette Frederiksen, together on Instagram to send a “joint message to Europe” and say no to “uncontrolled immigration” which has “negative impacts” on societies. The two prime ministers, the only women in Europe at the helm of their countries, as they point out in the message, say they want to “share some reflections on the future of Europe, on the security of its citizens and on the need to defend our values and our way of life”, as Meloni then wrote on Facebook. “We are aware that many might wonder about our collaboration”, admits the Italian prime minister referring to the different political background of her Danish colleague with whom “we certainly don’t agree on everything. But we are united by our desire to defend Europe.”
Repatriation centers in third countries
And now what more can we do? Repatriation centers must be created in third countries, as well as other innovative solutions outside Europe. We are working hard on it. But this is not enough. Respect for our laws must go hand in hand with respect for European values. This applies to illegal migrants, but also to the millions of foreign citizens who live legally in our nations and across Europe. We are both proud of Europe’s Christian cultural heritage and want to protect it. We expect those who arrive in our countries and choose to make Europe their home to respect our values and not try to impose on us models of life that we do not share. We believe that this is the right way to protect Europe and our common values. And we believe that millions of Europeans share this belief.”
No to uncontrolled immigration to Europe
“We do not accept uncontrolled immigration towards Europe, and we have promoted a rigorous migration policy, both in our nations and in Europe. No one can deny the negative impacts of illegal immigration on our societies: increasing crime rates, growing pressure on public services and erosion of citizens’ trust”, state the two prime ministers, underlining that “it is particularly serious when illegal migrants, without the right to remain in our nations, commit violent crimes, traffic drugs or are responsible for sexual violence”. European citizens, argue Meloni and Frederiksen, «they expect concrete actions from their political representatives». “For too long, ordinary people in particular have paid too high a price due to uncontrolled immigration. It is our duty to continue to work with determination to offer concrete answers to citizens, especially the most exposed, and to guarantee greater safety and protection for our communities”, underline the two leaders.
