Calabria will return to host the Italian Taekwondo Championships ten years after the last edition held in the region, in June 2016 in Reggio Calabria. The event is scheduled for 16 to 18 October at the PalaEventi in Rossano, in the municipality of Corigliano-Rossano.
The event represents one of the most important events on the national calendar of the Italian Taekwondo Federation and, over the three days, will attract hundreds of athletes from all over Italy.
Three Italian Championships scheduled
The Italian junior and senior red belt Championship, the Italian Under 21 black belt Championship and the Italian Master Championship will be held at PalaEventi. According to what was reported by the organizers, this is the federal event with the highest number of participants during the sporting season.
The event is sponsored by CONI, CIP, the Municipality of Corigliano-Rossano and the Calabria Region, as part of the regional program dedicated to major events.
Testimonial of the event will be the Olympic and world champion Simone Alessio, who will also take part in specific meetings with local schools.
Mascaro: «A recognition for the entire Calabrian movement»
«We are very satisfied with the trust that the Italian Taekwondo Federation has placed in Calabria by entrusting us with an event of this level», states the president of the Fita Calabria Regional Committee, Giancarlo Mascaro.
Mascaro thanks the federal president Angelo Cito «for the attention paid to our territory and for having shared this choice», underlining how the return of the Italian Championships after ten years represents «an important recognition of the work carried out by the sports clubs, the technicians, the athletes and the Regional Committee».
«It is confirmation of the growth of the Calabrian taekwondo movement and it is a responsibility that we face with great commitment, together with the institutions that supported this candidacy. We are already working so that Calabria can offer an organization worthy of such a prestigious championship, which will also serve to promote the beauty, culture and cuisine of our region”, concludes Mascaro.
