Several thousand people are demonstrating in Copenhagen to protest against Donald Trump and his aims on Greenland. This was reported by an AFP journalist on site. The demonstrators, carrying Greenlandic and Danish flags, formed a red and white tide in the colors of these flags in the town hall square, chanting the name of Greenland in Greenlandic: “Kalaallit Nunaat!”.

Protesters waved signs with slogans such as “Make America Go Away”, a parody of the Maga slogan, or “USA already has too much ice”.

Protests also occurred in other cities in Denmark

Other demonstrations are planned in the Scandinavian country, in Aarhus (centre), Aalborg (north) and Odense (south), on the initiative of various Greenlandic organisations.

The right to self-determination of the Greenlandic people

«For me it is important to participate, because it is fundamentally about the right of the Greenlandic people to self-determination. We cannot let ourselves be intimidated by a state, by an ally. It is a question of international law,” said Kirsten Hjoernholm, 52, an employee of the NGO Action Aid Denmark, during the protest.
