The clearing and redevelopment operation of Piazzale Nettuno in Crotone, an area of the Pythagorean capital which until recently hosted several migrants awaiting placement, was concluded in the last few hours. The intervention is the result of coordination between the Prefecture, Police Headquarters and municipal administration, engaged in the constant monitoring of the foreign asylum-seeking population present in the area.

The turning point came at the end of the screening procedures carried out by the Immigration Office of the Police Headquarters, conducted according to the directives of EU Regulation no. 1356/2024 (which entered into force on 12 June 2026 within the new European Pact for Migration and Asylum). With the green light from the authorities, the Prefecture has authorized the entry into the facilities of the Ministry of the Interior of another 33 foreign citizens who intend to request international protection. Today’s transfers add to the 27 already carried out at the beginning of the week, bringing the total number of asylum seekers settled in the last few days to 60.
Immediately after the definitive transfer of the migrants, the technicians of the Municipality of Crotone intervened in Piazzale Nettuno to complete a reclamation and extraordinary cleaning of the entire square.
Today’s operation is part of a wide-ranging action plan: from 1 July 2026 to today, the Prefecture of Crotone has managed the inclusion of 423 migrants identified in the city into the national first reception network. The management of the migratory phenomenon remains a priority for local institutions, which have already announced new meetings and technical tables with local authorities to address upcoming critical issues and define future strategies.
