“There are the facts, unfortunately increasingly dramatic, and then there is the propaganda of President Occhiuto.” With these words, the regional councilor of the Democratic Party, Amalia Bruni, denounces the unacceptable delay in the creation of intensive and sub-intensive care beds in Calabria, planned during the Covid emergency and foreseen by law 34/2020.
“Yesterday the government released official data on the activation of new beds,” Bruni said, “and, unfortunately, even in this very delicate matter, Calabria stands out as the last in the class. Out of 134 intensive care beds, only 24 have been activated, equal to 18%, while out of 136 sub-intensive care beds, only 11 have been created, corresponding to 8%. These are the facts.”
Councillor Bruni highlights how These data are an alarming signal for the Calabrese health system, which continues to record a critical level of inefficiency in vital sectors, despite the propaganda announcements. “There is no corner of our complex health service where you can see the light – continues Bruni – only proclamations and announcements, but the reality of the facts is increasingly dramatic. Those who do not have a short memory will remember well the tragic days of Covid, when Calabria risked ending up in the red zone precisely because of the lack of beds in intensive care.”
Bruni also expresses concern about the risk of losing further opportunities related to the PNRR funds. “The intensive care beds,” the councilor emphasizes, “have been included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, which requires that the works be tested by June 2026. However, at this rate, we risk losing this crucial opportunity as well.”
In conclusion, Amalia Bruni announces that she has already prepared a formal question to the President of the Region, Roberto Occhiuto, to clarify these unacceptable delays: “In the next few hours I will present a specific question to ask for explanations on the entire affair, because the Calabrians deserve efficient and safe healthcare, not just words”.
