Health care in the Catanzaro prison is, compared to the rest of the Calabrian institutions, a “positive exception”. This was underlined by the president of the Court of Appeal of Catanzaro in her report for the inauguration of the judicial year Concetta Epifanio. The Intensified Assistance Service, writes Epifanio, is “comparable to a multi-professional hospital department, with specialized sections, and where 24-hour healthcare, which was missing last year, has been restored since October 2024”. Since 2023, Professor Giulio Di Mizio has been appointed director of penitentiary healthcare at the ASP of Catanzaro. Since that moment there has been a constant increase in healthcare personnel and advanced diagnostic and technological equipment.
