At 12 today the firefighters alerted the Calabria Alpine and Speleological Rescue for the disappearance of a man in the Fago del Soldato area, about five kilometers from Camigliatello Silano, in the Celico area, at 1450 meters above sea level.
Research at altitude
The missing person, a 58-year-old of Apulian origin, was on the Sila Grande plateau together with two friends on an excursion in search of mushrooms. After separating from the group and never returning, the alarm was raised.
The technicians of the Sila Alpine Rescue Station immediately took action, gathering information and starting searches in the dense beech forest. In support, there was also a fire brigade helicopter busy flying over the area.
Successful recovery
The man, who remained in constant telephone contact with the rescuers, was finally located by the CNSAS, refreshed and winched aboard the helicopter. Transported to a safe area, he concluded the adventure without consequences.
The joint intervention between Alpine Rescue and firefighters allowed a rapid and positive conclusion to the operation.
